Empowering Youths, Transforming Communities
We are equipping young people with the knowledge, skills, and resources to overcome substance use disorder and build a healthier future.
The Brave Solution
Building a healthier future for young people in Africa
Not just a response, but a revolution. The Brave Heart Project is a community-driven initiative focused on addressing Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and mental health challenges among youth in Sierra Leone. By combining education, digital innovation, and advocacy, we empower young people to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives while fostering resilient communities.

What we do
Shifting Systems, Empowering Communities

Advocacy
We champion youth-centered policies by working with schools, communities, and government leaders to institutionalize SUD prevention and mental health education—ensuring every voice is heard and protected.
Research
Our initiatives are rooted in data. We gather insights from the ground, assess impact, and use evidence to shape interventions that work, ensuring our approach evolves with the needs of our youth.
Technology
We leverage digital innovations like our SIMBIHealth app and BraveHeart app to deliver life-saving information, mental health resources, and offline support in local languages, thereby putting power directly in the hands of young people

Stories of transformation from Brave Heart champions

From Vulnerability to Strength
Alausine
At 16, Alusine struggled with addiction to “kush.” Through Brave Heart, he accessed mental health resources and a supportive peer community. Today, he’s an advocate, helping others break free.

Brave Heart gave me the words to speak out
Josephinne
My brother struggled with kush for years, and I watched it tear my family apart. Brave Heart didn’t just teach me about drugs — it taught me how to talk about addiction without shame. I joined a support group, and I’m now part of a youth-led radio show spreading awareness in our community.

I didn’t know it was okay to ask for help
Alausine
Before Brave Heart, I thought I had to carry everything on my own. I was always anxious and angry, and no one around me really understood. But after the school sessions and meeting a mental health mentor, I realized that help exists others speak up too.

I’m building a different future for my family.
Josephinne
As the oldest of four, I had to grow up fast. I used to skip school to sell at the market, and I felt trapped. Brave Heart gave me access to mental health resources and taught me coping skills I never knew I needed. Now I stay in school, and I’m mentoring other girls like me
